Dark spots can appear on the skin due to natural aging and exposure to the sun. These spots present as flat, oval areas of concentrated pigment that carry a gray, black or brown color. Medically, age spots are pools of melanin, the compound that adds color to the skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, age spots will be anywhere from freckle-sized to one centimeter across and tend to gather in the same area, enhancing them. Skin bleaching may fade spots, but can be unpredictable and ineffective for some areas. As an alternative, concealing the spots with makeup will work consistently and make you look younger.

Step 1

Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat dry with a towel. Apply a body moisturizer appropriate for your skin type.

Step 2

Apply makeup foundation lightly. Use a liquid base product designed for oily skin. The website SoFeminine.co.uk suggests those prone to acne might try a tinted moisturizer as opposed to the standard makeup foundation. Apply the makeup sparingly, using just enough to balance skin color.

Step 3

Mix a little green concealer with under-eye concealer in the palm of your hand. Green will neutralize the color of the age spot. Blend the colors with one finger, then dab at the spots with the concealing compound.

Step 4

Use a concealer stick over the green concealer. Dab the areas with the stick and gently blend with your fingertip.

Step 5

Brush on powder to finish and set the concealers. Use powder sparingly; just brush enough to set the makeup and keep it from smearing.
