Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is a common condition in which children that have control of their bladders during the day, lose control of their bladders during sleep. A staggering five to seven million children in the United States suffer from this embarrassing problem, according to 2008 information from the University of Michigan Health System. Homeopathic remedies may provide a solution to bedwetting for some children, although no hard scientific evidence exits. Consult a homeopath before beginning treatment with homeopathic remedies for enuresis.

Equisetum

A common remedy for bedwetting is homeopathic Equisetum. According to William Boericke in his book, "Materia Medica and Repertory," Equisetum is useful for children who lose control during sleep, especially during times when they are having nightmares. A child who wets the bed at night may also complain during the day of dull pains in the bladder area with a feeling of fullness and frequent urging to urinate. Equisetum may be helpful for any form of urinary incontinence.

Belladonna

Homeopathic Belladona may provide relief to children who experience bedwetting due to illness or infection in the bladder, according to Boericke. The child's sleep may be disturbed, especially during illness, making him cry out in pain and grit his teeth. He may be difficult to arouse from sleep. Belladonna is helpful when urine is retained in the bladder, and then causes pain with cramping during urination. The remedy is useful for frequent and profuse urination both during the day and at nighttime.

Argentum Nitricum

Commonly referred to as Arg nit, this remedy may be helpful for nocturnal enuresis in children who have anxiety and anticipation over taking tests, performing in school, and fear about upcoming events. They may urinate unconsciously during the day and at nighttime in bed, according to Frans Vermeulen in his book, "Synoptic Materia Medica."

Other Homeopathic Remedies

Additional remedies that may be helpful for bedwetting include Rhus Toxicodendron, Lycopodium, Gelsemium, Sepia, Sulfur, Phosphorus, Arsenicum Album and Thuja, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Many of these remedies are helpful for bedwetting accompanied by different kinds of fears and anxiety.

Homeopathic remedies are available at health food stores and from online pharmacies. In all cases, a remedy should be chosen by a knowledgeable homeopath and not administered through self-treatment.
