Hit the open road and get away from ringing cell phones, emails and text messages. Hocking Hills RV parks get you close to all of the outdoor attractions in the southern Ohio section of Appalachia. Pack your bags, pack the dog, don't forget your hiking boots and let the adventure begin. Whether you choose a state park RV site or a commercial facility, you are mere stone's throw away from waterfalls, rock formations and secluded trails.

Hocking Hills Region

Three state parks exist within the Hocking Hills region, all of which offer RV spaces. Decide what attractions you plan on visiting before selecting a park to reduce the amount of time you spend driving and increase your time having fun. Hocking Hills is the second largest outdoor attraction in Ohio, with campgrounds and RV parks reaching capacity nearly every weekend. Book your space in advance, especially during the fall foilage season.

Northern Region

Hocking Hills State Park is home to Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls and the handicap accessible Ash Cave. A total of 156 electric sites inside the park can accommodate recreational vehicles up to 50 feet long. RV guests have access to a bathhouse, playground, lodge dining hall and swimming pool, as well as a laundry facility. Roast s'mores over the fire ring or enjoy a picnic at the tables provided next to the lodging sites. Explore the nine hiking trails that run through the park, then dip your toe into the waterfall overflow pools to cool off. Special events and seasonal activities occur year-round, many of which are available at no cost to park visitors.

Southern Region

Lake Alma State Park, located in the southern area of the Hocking Hills region, features 71 electrical sites for RV or tent camping. Unleash both the children and the dogs to play in designated beach swimming areas. Two separate playground structures and a sand volleyball court border the swimming areas. Toast an Appalachian sunset from the waterfront gazebo, or take a leisurely stroll around the man-made island. Lake Alma State Park camp office loans games and sporting equipment to campers.

Southwestern Region

Lake Hope State Park, located in the southwestern corner of the region, offers 192 outdoor lodging sites. If horseback riding or mountain biking are on your agenda, this area of the Hocking Hills region is where you want to park. Zaleski State Forest, located adjacent to the state park, features steep trails with majestic views of Lake Hope. Step back in time and explore the Moonville Rail Trail, just two miles away from the state park. The muscle-powered trail was once a major passageway through Appalachia. An old railroad tunnel is still passable and attracts both history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts.

Commercial Parks

Hocking Hills KOA Campground and the Hocking River RV Park offer less seclusion than the state park ground but have a host of entertainment amenities. Take a moonlight hayride, float around the pool or slide a canoe in the river and dig for "gems" at the children's mine while enjoying a break from the modern world on a Hocking Hills getaway.
