Cellulite is a collection of fat that collects around the thighs, hips or buttocks. It is a not a medical condition but is an annoyance to many women because of its appearance. There are a number of products on the market with claims of getting rid of cellulite, but in most cases, the results, if any, are temporary. Although you may not be able to get rid of your cellulite, there are some things you can do reduce its occurrence or appearance.
Step 1
Incorporate toning exercises for your thighs, hips and buttocks into your workout regimen. Toning muscles in these areas reduces the appearance of cellulite.
Step 2
Visit a plastic surgeon to discuss laser and radiofrequency treatment or liposuction as treatment for cellulite. Laser and radiofrequency treatments combine massage with lasers or infrared light to smooth out the dimples in the skin. Liposuction is often used to treat cellulite, as it is designed to shape the body. In some cases, cellulite can appear worse after having liposuction.
Step 3
Visit a medical spa to discuss lipomassage, mesotherapy or cellulite creams as treatment for cellulite. Endermologie is the most common form of lipomassage. Lipomassage entails using a handheld machine to knead skin between rollers. Lipomassage has been found to be successful, though results are short term. Mesotherapy entails injection a solution containing aminophylline, hormones, enzymes, herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals under the skin to fill in the dimples in the skin. There is limited information on the duration of effects. Mesotherapy has been known to cause rashes, infections or even amplification of cellulite.
Step 4
Reduce the amount of fat you consume in your diet to avoid fat collecting around the thighs, hips or buttocks. Reducing your body fat overall provides a more toned look, because muscles are more visible and are not hidden behind fat tissue.
