Making a basketball net can be easy, cheap and fun. Most of the tools and supplies you need are probably already sitting on your workbench and the rest are available at a local hardware or sporting goods store.
Step 1
Cut the plywood into a horizontal rectangle measuring approximately 6 feet in length and 3.5 feet in height. This is an official backboard size.
Step 2
Paint a horizontal rectangle at the bottom center of the backboard. This rectangle should measure 2 feet wide and 1.5 feet high, which is also an official standard. Feel free to make the rectangle a solid color, although most professional hoops only have the outline.
Step 3
Attach the rim kit using the bolts provided. Center it within the painted rectangle.
Step 4
Install the net to the rim. Tightly secure each loop, otherwise the net will degrade faster and you will have to replace it.
Step 5
Mount the completed hoop to a nearby wall. Ask a friend to help you lift the board. Place a bolt beneath the rim and at each corner of the board to maximize the amount of usable shooting area.
