Quick & Fast Ways to Lose Weight

Weight loss is reducing your total body mass, usually through healthy eating and exercise. According to The Mayo Clinic, weight loss of 5 percent to 10 percent of your body fat can reduce blood pressure, lipid levels, blood glucose levels, and help to produce greater sensitivity to insulin. Some quick ways to lose weight can be through drinking plenty of water, weight loss surgery and fad diets Of course, you need to talk to your doctor before pursuing any of these methods to lose weight.

Drinking Lots of Water

Drinking lots of water can be one way to lose weight quickly. The website, Fitness Tips for Life says that "Drinking lots of water, usually between 8 to 10 glasses per day, flushes out the poisons in your body, makes you feel full and does not encourage you to eat more than you should during the day." It also notes, "Water has zero calories and gives you what is needed to help your body feel healthier."

Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery, particularly for those with type 2 diabetes, has been shown to be very beneficial. "Bariatric weight loss surgery has been shown to stop the use of insulin, in three out of four people, who are insulin dependent and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes . Bariatric surgery, or as it is commonly called, gastric bypass surgery, can be used for those who have BMI or body fat percentages greater than 30 percent," according to an article posted by HealthDay News. However, there can be complications with gastric bypass surgery. Patients should consult with their physicians regarding side effects of gastric bypass or bariatric surgery.

Fad Diets

The Cabbage Soup Diet and the Green Tea Diet are fad diets which at one time or another were considered to work in helping people lose weight quickly. The Weight Control Room website says the Cabbage Soup Diet focuses on eating cabbage and water only. Although you lose the weight, it is said that the weight is only water weight and not actual pounds. The Green Tea Diet focuses on drinking four to five glasses of green tea daily. Green tea has been shown to decrease cholesterol levels. These diets call for a minimal amount of calories. When increasing your daily exercise routine and decreasing your caloric intake, losing weight quickly should happen. Exercising at a minimum of 30 minutes per day should help you to lose weight. Always get your doctor's clearance before starting any new diet.
