Family vacations are a chance for parents and children to spend quality time together while experiencing new things. A good family vacation is one where both the parents and the children find enjoyable things to do and also can take the time to relax and unwind from the stress of their everyday lives.
Orlando, Florida
Located in the Sunshine State, Orlando is the site of Walt Disney World and is one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. In all, there are close to 20 theme parks to choose from in Orlando, including SeaWorld, Disney, LEGOLAND, Busch Gardens and Universal Studios Florida. For a more educational experience, visit the Kennedy Space Center, located about an hour east of Orlando in Cape Canaveral, and see where American space vehicles are maintained and launched. For some fun in the sun, the famous Daytona and Cocoa Beach are about 45 minutes from downtown Orlando. For sports fans, the city is home to basketball's Orlando Magic, while the football Buccaneers, hockey Lightning and baseball Rays all call nearby Tampa home.
New York City
With a population of more than 16 million, New York City is the largest city in the United States and the fifth-largest in the world. It is home to a large number of landmarks that children and adults can both enjoy such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. Parents with older children might enjoy taking in a Broadway musical. Exploring Times Square, which is sometimes called the "The Crossroads of the World," can take most of a day with its high-end stores, scores of restaurants, over-size advertisements and video boards bringing in news and entertainment from all over the world. Or hike through Central Park, 843 acres of greenery and lakes set right in the middle of Manhattan; visit the Central Park Zoo.
Chicago, Illinois
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago is home to many attractions for the whole family. The city's Navy Pier has numerous sites and shops, as well as a huge carousel and Ferris wheel. Many sight-seeing boats leave from near Navy Pier, giving visitors an impressive view of the entire downtown area. To see a different view of the city, take a ride to the top of the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower. At 108 stories, it is the tallest building in the United States and has an observation deck on the 103rd floor for visitors. For parents and kids who love sports, Chicago is home to Wrigley Field, famous home of the baseball Cubs, as well as to the baseball White Sox, football Bears, basketball Bulls and hockey Blackhawks.
