How to Remove an Ingrown Hair on the Neck
Overview
An ingrown hair on the neck is created when hair is cut, typically by shaving, and continues to grow underneath the skin. Inflammation, redness and a small bump are signs of an ingrown hair, and infections are common. Follow these steps to remove one from the neck.
Step 1
Wash area with antibacterial soap daily until the ingrown hair is visible. Do not pick or rub the area.
Step 2
Apply a hot compress to the ingrown hair to open the pore. Taking a hot shower will do the trick.
Step 3
Clean sharp tweezers. Use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol and wipe the tips to disinfect.
Step 4
Locate the ingrown hair. Attempt removal only if the hair is visible. Quickly pinch hair and pull. Have someone assist with pulling if hair is difficult to see or reach, or use a mirror.
Step 5
Allow hair to continue to grow if it is not visible. Ingrown hairs usually clear up within one week. If the infection worsens, or hair is still not visible after one week, seek medical attention.
