Rejean Durette, author of "Fruit: The Ultimate Diet," says fruit diets are easy to maintain and one of the best ways to lose weight. The key, says Durette, is that fruit provides a lot of natural sugar and helps you stay energetic and positive while surviving on fewer calories than normal. Another plus to fruit is its high fiber content, which increases your level of satisfaction despite eating less than you would on a normal diet.

Step 1

Eat 50 percent or more of your daily calories from fruit. Thanks to fruit's high fiber content, you will feel as full and energetic as you would on a normal diet while consuming several hundred fewer calories.

Step 2

Consume 600 to 850 calories before 9 a.m., says Daniela Jakubowicz, author of "The Big Breakfast Diet: Eat Big Before 9 a.m. and Lose Big for Life." Make sure the majority of those calories come from fruit. Use smoothies if you are having difficulty eating that much raw fruit, as liquid calories are easier to eat.

Step 3

Eat four snack meals throughout the rest of the day. Each meal should be at least 150 calories. Use homemade trail mix with high fruit content, fruit salads or smoothies to supply the bulk of these calories. These snacks will keep you satisfied and reduce the overall calories you eat.

Step 4

Develop an eating routine to transform enjoyable meals into habits. For instance, if your favorite breakfast includes a strawberry-banana smoothie and grapefruit, then repeat this meal until it becomes an unthinking habit. This will simplify your meal choices and make it easier to resist the temptation to cheat on your diet.
