Solar Comfort Heater Review

Solar Comfort heaters are electric furnaces that efficiently and affordably heat indoor spaces. While its name might imply that the furnace is powered by the sun, the name actually refers to heating via infrared absorption, similar to how the Sun heats the Earth.

Design

Solar Comfort heaters are compact, and can be moved from room to room on casters. The heating unit is contained in a wooden cabinet designed to fit in with your home's furniture.

Function

According to the Solar Comfort website, Solar Comfort heaters offer quiet operation and even heating, with a maximum difference of 2 degrees Fahrenheit from floor to ceiling.

Technology

Solar Comfort heaters draw in surrounding air through a fan. The air passes through a filter and into a chamber with professional-grade infrared lamps. The lamps heat the air, which then passes through a specialized heat exchanger. The warmed air then exits through the air delivery grille on the front of the unit.

Efficiency

Solar Comfort heaters use up to 35 percent less energy than conventional electric furnaces, and can heat up to 800 square feet of space.

Safety

Solar Comfort heaters produce no fumes, and no radiant heat, which means there is no danger of getting burned, even if you stand close to the unit.

Cost

A Solar Comfort heater--including the cabinet--costs $695 as listed on the Solar Comfort website in 2010.
