Many people notice fat gain in the face quicker than any other area of the body. Unfortunately, you cannot simply lose fat from one area of the body, according to the American Council on Exercise. You have to combine diet with exercise to lose body fat, including facial fat. Facial exercises may help thin your face as you combine them with full body exercise. Before you begin exercising to get a thin face, consult your healthcare provider.
Lip Hold
The lip hold exercise strengthens the muscles that control your lips and cheeks. Place a popsicle stick or other long, flat object between your lips. Prevent the stick from falling out of your mouth by holding it in place with your lips, but not your teeth, advises the Ohio State University Medical Center. Hold the stick for as long as you can. Once you can hold the stick in place for two or more minutes, try moving the stick from side to side using only your lips.
Cheek Puff
The cheek puff exercise also works the muscles of the cheeks and lips to thin your face. Breathe in slowly and puff air into your cheeks. Prevent the air from escaping your mouth by tightening your lips. The Ohio State University Medical Center advises holding the air in your cheeks for 5 seconds. Take a second breath and puff it only into your left cheek. Hold it in place by tightening your right cheek muscles. Hold the air in your left cheek for 5 seconds, then press it into your right cheek for 5 seconds.
Cheek Lifter
The cheek lifter, a facial resistance exercise, will help strengthen and tone your cheek muscles, while developing the upper lip, according to Gary Sikorski, in his book, "Happy Face Yoga." Begin by smiling and opening your mouth wide to form a long "O" with your mouth. Fold your top lip over your upper teeth. Smile as big as possible to lift your cheek muscles up, while keeping your mouth open. Next, place your index finger just under your eyes, at the top of your cheek muscle. Relax your cheek muscles, then smile again raising your cheek muscles against the resistance from your finger. Repeat 10 times.
Lion Face
The facial yoga pose called the lion face engages most of the facial muscles to help thin the face, according to Marie-Veronique Nadeau, author of "The Yoga Facelift." Start by taking a deep breath and clenching all of the muscles in your face. Clenching your fists will help relax the rest of your upper body. Hold your muscles clenched for 5 to 10 seconds. Open your mouth and stick your tongue out toward your chin as far as you can, while you open your eyes wide. Exhale, feeling your breath on the back of your throat and make a "ha" sound like a lion's roar. Relax all the muscles in your body.
