False eyelashes can add a dramatic look to the eye. Eyelashes can be purchased as individual hairs, clumps or as entire sections. A variety of natural colors is available. Eyelashes can be purchased at most cosmetic departments and drugstores. Prices range from several dollars for artificial lashes to several hundred for mink hair lashes.
Step 1
Clean eye area with an oil-free makeup remover. Soak cotton ball in makeup remover and gently wipe across the eye. Remove eyelash from packet and gently place against eye. Visually examine how well the eyelash blends in length with your natural lashes.
Step 2
Trim both the width and length of the lash to remove excess hairs and allow for a more natural look. Cut the lash in half, to be used at the end of the eye, if the full eyelash extension looks excessive.
Step 3
Put a small portion of glue on a piece of paper. Wave the paper in the air for 10 to 20 seconds, allowing the glue to get tacky. Glue is ready when it begins to turn clear. Apply glue to the bottom edge of the lash. Press lash onto outer corner of eye. Continue to press down on lash until the entire lash is in place. Hold down and press lash for 15 seconds.
Step 4
Use a sharp-angled brush to apply dark eye shadow or liner. Use the makeup to camouflage the eyelash seam and natural eyelashes. Add mascara to false lashes as well as your own lashes for a seamless look.
Tips and Warnings
- Practice wearing lashes at home several times before wearing them out in public to ensure they are applied correctly.
