Acne is a common skin condition in the United States. Pimples form when hair follicles under the skin clog up. According to MedlinePlus, most pimples form on the neck, back, chest and shoulders. Anybody can get acne but it is most common in young teenagers. A variety of supplements can help to reduce the appearance of acne if you suffer from it.
Zinc
Zinc is an essential trace mineral that you get through foods you consume. It is found in every cell in your body and has been used since ancient times due to its ability to heal wounds and plays an important role in the immune system, growth, taste, proper insulin and blood clotting. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, some studies have suggested that taking oral zinc supplements can help to reduce acne. Also, taking zinc in conjunction with a topical antibiotic erythromycin may also be effective in fighting off acne.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A helps to promote cellular growth and works with carotenoids to help keep the tissue of the skin strong and stops acne from forming by regulating the production of sebum, according to Dr. George Obikoya. Vitamin A is important for the repair of tissues and also helps the body deal with stress, which is known to cause acne. A lack of vitamin A in the body can lead to acne.
B Vitamins
Riboflavin or vitamin B2 helps to maintain and improve the mucous membranes. A lack of vitamin B2 can result in acne. Niacinamide or vitamin B3 promotes healthy circulation and helps to metabolize carbs, fats and proteins. A deficiency in vitamin B3 can contribute to acne. Pantothenic acid or vitamin B5 works with the body to reduce stress, which is related to acne.
