How to Recycle a Body Ball

Once your body ball has served its purpose, it's important to take the right steps to recycle it the proper way. Body balls are composed of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, a flexible and durable material that is a great for keeping you in shape but is neither biodegradable nor easily recycled. For this reason, they end up in landfills, contributing to hazardous waste. Thankfully, you have several options available for finding other uses for your body ball, long after you no longer need it.

Step 1

Call your local recycling center to see if it accepts PVC materials and body balls.

Step 2

Donate your body ball to a local charity, YMCA or recreation center.

Step 3

Sell it or trade it at a used sporting goods store.

Step 4

Contact vinyl manufacturers and companies, such as those that make vinyl flooring, vinyl billboards, vinyl-backed carpet and vinyl medical supplies, to see if they accept vinyl products, such as your body ball, for recycling and reuse.

Tips and Warnings

  • For a directory of companies that accept PVC products for recycling, visit Vinylinfo.org. If no option is available for recycling, consider using your stability ball as a chair for the office or home.
