The Best Way to Get Rid of a Wart

Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus, also known as HPV, and increase cell growth on the outer later of skin. Warts are noncancerous and many times disappear without any treatment. Warts materialize as small raised bumps that are a deep flesh color. Warts most commonly appear on feet and hands, but can also grow on any part of the body. Removing warts is generally done for cosmetic reasons.

Salicylic Acid Treatment

Step 1

Use an over-the-counter wart treatment. Purchase medication at a local drug or grocery store. Look for products that contain salicylic acid.

Step 2

Apply the wart remover to the affected area for one to two weeks. Use a cotton ball or tissue to place medication on the wart. Most treatments come in an ointment or gel form. The acid will dissolve the top and inner layers of the wart.

Step 3

Seek medical attention if over-the-counter products do not work. Invasive procedures such as freezing warts or laser removal are quick and relatively painless, but must be done in a doctor's office.

Freeze Away

Step 1

Purchase a liquid nitrogen wart remover kit. Kits are commonly found at pharmacies and grocery stores.

Step 2

Apply the liquid nitrogen to the wart. Use the enclosed applicators. One application is all that is necessary.

Step 3

Wait for the wart to naturally fall off. Do not pick at or rub the wart; warts generally fall off within one week.

Step 4

Examine the wart if it has not fallen off within one week. You may have to reapply the liquid nitrogen treatment.
