Sickness, pain and other problems are caused when Qi (pronounced chee) energy is blocked, according to a Chinese healing philosophy. In order to repair those problems, philosophers developed qigong to help the body remove obstacles and increase the flow of energy. Specific exercises and stances can help the body feel better. Qigong is closely related to tai chi.
Qigong Horse Stance
This exercise will bring a greater energy flow to the body and work specifically on the back. Stand with your feet about shoulder-length apart. Your toes should be pointed slightly and your knees should be slightly flexed. Keep your spine straight and lower your buttocks as if you were sitting on a chair. If you are doing this correctly, your lower body will feel completely relaxed. Your thighs will shake when touched. Hold this stance for five to seven minutes.
Bow Stance
Stand with your left foot angled and your right foot straight. They should be about 18 inches away from each other. Bend your knees about 4 to 6 inches and stand completely straight. Turn your palms outward. You should feel complete relaxation in both your thighs and your arms. Hold this stance for five to seven minutes.
Rowing On a Calm Lake
Stand up with both feet angled away from the center of the room. Put your hands up by your shoulders and then lower them slowly to your waist. Then, raise them up to your shoulders again. This move should be done very slowly. Lower your hands to your waist again. Continue this exercise for about five to seven minutes. The goal of this exercise is to bring you to a state of relaxation.
