A lot of people have slow metabolic rates, which means that their bodies take a long time to draw energy and proteins from the foods they eat. This is very bad for those dieting for weight loss, and is in general unhealthy. A number of vitamins common to foods we eat have been shown to increase your metabolic rate.

Vitamin B

One all-important vitamin for improving metabolic rate is vitamin B. According to Love to Know, all kinds of B vitamins have been shown to boost metabolic rate. Vitamins B-2 and B-6 are also essential for the proper functioning of the thyroid, which according to AnneCollins.com also helps regulate metabolism as well as growth.

Chromium

Vitamins like bitter orange and chromium also increase metabolism. According to Progressive Health, chromium also helps to regulate your glucose levels. Glucose is what the body makes out of sugars, and proper regulation is absolutely essential to weight loss and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Choline

Choline is another member of the vitamin B family, although it's not really a vitamin as it's produced in the liver. It is essential for regulating proper metabolism, though, and according to AnneCollins.com, it's especially important for fat metabolism, which is the most important metabolic process for weight loss.
