Lenox is a small town in western Massachusetts that offers numerous activities for cultural enthusiasts and outdoorsmen alike, from the renowned Tanglewood Concert Hall to wildlife viewing and horseback riding. There are also museums, scenic farms, and historic buildings to visit.

Horseback Riding

Picturesque Berkshire County encompass Lenox, Massachusetts, so there is plenty of hiking, fishing, and camping to be done just outside of the city. In Lenox itself visit the Aspinwall Adult Equestrian Center for a guided horseback riding tour through the Berkshires. You'll be traveling along trails in Kennedy Park and Lenox Mountain. On a clear day you will have views of the Catskills and Green Mountains in Vermont.

Noteworthy Property

At 2 Plunkett Street stands the estate of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton, whose novels include "Ethan Frome" and "The Age of Innocence." This mansion, which dates back to 1902, is surrounded by beautiful, well-maintained gardens that were designed by Wharton herself. Tours are available daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Museums

The Gilded Age Museum is housed in the summer cottage of J.P Morgan's sister, called Ventfort Hall. The town of Lenox and the Berkhsire hills were the premier spots to vacation during that era, and they are the focus of the museum. This stunning Victorian mansion is the perfect setting to learn about the super-wealthy tourists who descended on the area every summer.

Wildlife Viewing

If you like to see animals in their natural habitats, you'll be interested in visiting the Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. The area offers 1,500 acres, or seven miles, of trails. There are programs year-round and the sanctuary is open daily. Bring your binoculars for spectacular bird viewing and to view other flora and fauna of the woodlands.
