San Francisco is a vibrant city full of fantastic, fun, educational and entertaining activities for the modern single. Famous for the Golden Gate Bridge, the plethora of museums, the charming neighborhoods and the wide variety of eateries and shops, San Francisco is also an ideal spot for those pursuing a healthy, balanced and enjoyable life.

San Francisco is home to several singles clubs and opportunities for its citizens to socialize and meet new friends.

Sierra Singles

According to the Sierra Singles San Francisco Bay Chapter Sierra Club's website, they are the "largest environmentally focused singles organization in Northern California." With approximately 40 volunteer club organizers, members are presented with plenty of activities including backpacking, day hiking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, river rafting, bicycling, camping, sea kayaking, environmental education programs, dances and museum excursions.

The cost for most activities is nonexistent; the activities with a cost are negotiated so members break even with their club cost.

Urban Diversion

Urban Diversion's focus is maintaining a group of people who like to be in the outdoors and enjoy adventures together. This organization has been active for seven years and provides approximately 30 activities a month for its members. Urban Diversion is not exclusively a singles club and they are welcoming to anyone who would like to make new friends.

Common activities include surfing, rock climbing, scuba diving in Thailand, boating through the Greek islands, beach volleyball, Frisbee golf at Golden Gate Park, capturing the flag, salsa dancing, backpacking in Yosemite and hiking Tomales Point and enjoying an oyster barbecue after.

Urban Diversion has a Downtown San Francisco clubhouse for its approximately 700 members.

San Francisco Ski Club

Skiing in San Francisco may have been the last thing many singles expect to do in the Bay Area, but the San Francisco Ski Club hosts several activities year-round for single skiing enthusiasts. During the snowy season, members travel to nearby Sierra Nevada or Lake Tahoe, where the snowy season is long, to ski or snowboard while enjoying the companionship of their club mates. They also sponsor a racing team. The rest of the year provides opportunities for members to meet for dinner, concerts, golfing or relaxing, mellow mixers.

Singles Supper Club

For single foodies, the Single Gourmet has a Singles Supper Club in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Singles Supper Club is a social and dining club for well-educated, successful singles. Members get together several times a month to enjoy good food, good wine and good company with new friends. In addition to exploring new Bay Area eateries, the club also hosts dances, mixers, cooking classes and wine tastings.

Specific activity examples include a Santa Cruz winery picnic dinner/mixer, a summer ball and dance parties.

The Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club

For those singles who love to cast or would like to learn how to cast, the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club provides members with the opportunity to not only cast in California but to practice their skills all over the world. Located in beautiful Golden Gate Park, the Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club also has an on-site casting pool available for public use. Special focus is placed on environmentally sound practices and conserving the environment, leaving no significant impact.
