Cincinnati has a wide variety of healthy activities for kids. Whether it be swimming, skating or playing at the park, kids will be able to enjoy Cincinnati's recreational activities while also staying fit. Parents should have no worries about their kids getting bored with entertainment options located throughout the city.
Youth Sports and Fitness
The Cincinnati Sports Club's website has a long list of activities for kids. These activities include dance classes, kickball, flag football, whiffleball, soccer, martial arts, cheerleading and more. The club holds a youth summer camps and provides kids with opportunities to participate in team sports throughout the year. The club is located on the east side of town.
Exploring Nature
Ault Park is one of Cincinnati's premiere parks. It is located in the Mt. Lookout area of the city. It has nature trails for kids to explore as well as a play area for children. A hiking trail for Ault Park as well as other Cincinnati area parks can be found on the Cincinnati Parks website (see Resources). Kids who would like to play Frisbee or disc golf can head to Mt. Airy Forest in the Colerain area of Cincinnati.
Skating
The Fun Factory, in the Norwood area of Cincinnati, offers kids a lively and safe place to roller skate. According to the Fun Factory's website, the skate center is free for kids ages 12 and under on Wednesday nights with skating time from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday nights, the center is open from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. for kids ages 14 and under. Cost of admission on Friday nights is $6.75. The center is also open on weekend afternoons for kids of all ages, with admission fees around $5.
For ice skating, kids can visit Northland Ice Center, in Evendale, which according to its website is Cincinnati's first indoor year-round ice-skating rink. Public skating hours are held every day in the afternoon and on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Kids 12 and under are charged an admission fee of $5, which includes skate rentals. Everybody else pays an admission fee of $7.
Swimming
The largest outdoor pool in all of Cincinnati can be found at Coney Island Amusement Park. According to Coney Island's website, Sunlite Pool was built in 1925 and measures 200 feet wide and 401 feet long. The pool has an acre of shallow water for the youngest of kids to swim in. The deep end of the pool has diving boards and swimming lanes. There are four water slides for kids to use. The pool is open every day during the summer from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Outside of the pool area is a lake where you can rent paddles boats. The park sits along the Ohio River in the Beechmont area of Cincinnati.
Interactive Education
The Duke Energy Children's Museum at the Cincinnati Museum Center provides kids with a hands-on interactive educational experience. One area of the museum called the Woods is an adventure-based wilderness recreational area. According the the Cincinnati Museum Center's website, this area encourages kids to challenge their physical prowess and explore their imaginations. Kids can make their way through a three-story structure where they will climb through logs, cross rope bridges and climb a horizontal wall. According to its website, the Duke Energy Children's Museum has consistently ranked in the top 10 children's museums in the United States.
