Spend a weekend soaking up the serenity and outdoor adventure in the Hocking Hills. Campgrounds in the southern Ohio region allow you to stay close to the state parks and attractions, keeping time spent inside your vehicle to a minimum. Hocking Hills campgrounds combine the rustic charm of primitive camping and modern electrical enabled spaces with plenty of recreational amenities on-site. Due to the negative impact of the ash borer insect, firewood must be purchased from campground stores.

Spend some time browsing the attractions and special events sections of the Hocking Hills Travel Guide before choosing a Hocking Hills campground. After deciding what activities you will place on your agenda, you can reserve a spot at a nearby campground. Hocking Hills State Park is the second largest outdoor attraction in the Midwest, and boasts several thousand visitors each weekend. Plan ahead when visiting the region during the fall foilage season, campgrounds book quickly.
Northern Region
The northern region of the Hocking Hills is home to Old Man's Cave and the Hocking Hills State Park. Multiple spas, cooking classes, art galleries and a canoe livery are located within five miles of the state park. Hocking Hills State Park campground features 156 electrical enable campsites and 13 primitive camping areas. Large groups and families can reserve a multiple campsite area with pit latrines. All of the campsites at the state park offers a concrete pad which can hold a tent up to 50 feet long. The camp store, dump station, bathhouse and a playground are within walking distance from the camping area. Registered campers also have access to the outdoor swimming pool at the Hocking Hills State Park Lodge.
Commercial Campgrounds
Pan for "gems" at the Hocking Hills KOA campground. While the sites are less private than ones found at the state parks, a multitude of amenities exist on-site. Slide aboard a rustic wagon and enjoy a cruise through the woods followed by a marshmallow roast. Additional amenities include a game room, karaoke events, sports courts, swimming pool and a playground. Located just two miles from the entrance of Old Man's Cave, this campground combines entertainment with a convenient location.
Southwestern Region
If mountain biking or horseback riding are on your Hocking Hills getaway agenda, try camping in the southwestern section of the region. Lake Hope State Park is adjacent to the Zaleski State Forest. Winding trails through Zaleksi State Forest are a haven for backpackers, bicyclists and horseback riding enthusiasts. Lake Hope State Park campground features 192 electric and primitive campsites. Registered campers have access to the swimming beach, playground, sports courts , canoe and kayak rentals.
Southern Region
Spend a weekend hiking around a man-made island or the paved walking path at Lake Alma State Park in the southern region of the Hocking Hills. The state park features 72 electric enabled campsites with concrete pads in a mostly wooded area. Bring along "Fido" to enjoy the fenced dog beach area. Campers have access to the swimming beaches, paddle boat rentals, two playgrounds, hiking trails and a lakefront gazebo.
