Lines around the upper lip are most commonly caused by repeated facial expressions like smiling, laughing and talking, and they are quite common in both men and women as they age. However, these lines can be embarrassing, and age a person prematurely. Luckily, there are some natural home remedies that can help to smooth and get rid of upper lip lines by tightening and firming the skin according to Marcel Lavabre, author of "Aromatherapy Workbook."

Step 1

Combine 1/2 tsp. Clary sage essential oil, 1/2 tsp. frankincense essential oil, 1/2 tsp. patchouli essential oil, 1/4 tsp. myrrh essential oil, 1/4 tsp. carrot seed essential oil and 1/2 cup jojoba oil in a small bottle with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 2

Cover the bottle and shake vigorously for 20 seconds to combine the contents inside.

Step 3

Pour a small amount of the essential oil mixture onto a clean cotton pad. Let the oil soak into the cotton for one minute.

Step 4

Rub the cotton pad on the upper lip area. Make sure not to get the mixture in your mouth or on your lips to avoid irritation.

Step 5

Leave the oil mixture on your skin for about 35 to 40 minutes or until the oil is almost completely dry.

Step 6

Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a mild facial soap and apply your regular facial moisturizer.

Step 7

Repeat this treatment daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Discontinue use if the mixture causes redness or any other type of irritation, as this may be an allergic reaction.

Step 8

Keep unused portions of this mixture in the refrigerator or in a cool, dark and dry place for 60 days. Discard the mixture after 60 days.

Tips and Warnings

  • Always use therapeutic-grade essential oils for skin and hair treatments, as these oils offer the most benefit, though they tend to be a bit more expensive than regular essential oils.
  • This remedy has not been approved or evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. While this is common among herbal, natural remedies, you should consult your doctor or dermatologist if you are concerned about your safety or interaction with other drugs or treatments you are currently using.
