Sometimes bibs aren't enough to protect our babies' clothing from the inevitable mess that they can make while eating. It's amazing how babies can somehow manage to get food all over the place, leaving the adults to deal with the aftermath. Though baby food stains may seem to cause the demise of a perfectly good garment, eliminating the stains isn't as difficult as it seems. With minimal effort, baby food stains are as good as gone.
Step 1
Remove any baby food that's still on the garment with a cloth or paper towels. If the stain is old, scrape away the dried baby food with a plastic utensil.
Step 2
Rinse the stained area of the garment under cold running water to remove as much of the stain as possible.
Step 3
Soak the garment in cold water. Add bleach-free laundry detergent until the water is sudsy.
Step 4
Soak the garment for at least 30 minutes.
Step 5
Launder the garment in warm water with bleach-free detergent per the manufacturers' instructions.
Step 6
Inspect the garment when it comes out of the washing machine. If the stain remains, soak it for another 30 minutes with cold water and detergent before laundering it again.
Tips and Warnings
- Heat can cook the stain into the fabric and should be avoided. If the stain is persistent, use chlorine bleach or color safe bleach to help eliminate the stain.
