Possibly the most exciting month in Chicago, June brings a flood of events and sunshine to the Windy City. Summer break allows students to engage in more activities, and the general mood of Chicagoans is more positive after enduring another hard winter. If you're a visitor to Chicago, you'll have no problem finding a fun activity during the month of June.

Festivals

Support the local chamber of commerce by attending a Chicago street festival. Independent businesses sell their goods out on the street during Saturdays and Sundays, and local and national acts play music on multiple stages. Popular fests occurring in June include Do-Division, Ribfest, Andersonville Midsommarfest, Metronome Celebration and the Green Music Fest.

Lake Michigan

After months of keeping the beaches closed, things finally open up again by June. Swimmers and sailors can enjoy the sunny weather at multiple areas along Chicago's lakefront. Joggers also have the opportunity to run along the Lakeshore Trail, offering beautiful views of both Lake Michigan and the city skyline.

Baseball

Many parks throughout the city offer baseball diamonds where both league and pickup games are available. But if you'd rather watch from the stands, Chicago is lucky enough to have two professional teams. On the south side, the White Sox play at U.S. Cellular Field, while the Cubs play up north in the historic Wrigley Field.

Parks

Parks that were too cold to set foot in during the winter are finally thawed out by June and are perfect spots for picnics, jogging or games of Frisbee. The most popular parks in Chicago are Grant Park, Millennium Park and Lincoln Park. The west side is home to Garfield Park, which has one of the most immaculate conservatories in the country.

Bicycling

The Tour de Fat is one of the most popular events for bicyclists all year, and it takes during the last weekend of June in Chicago's Palmer Square. The last Friday of the month is Critical Mass at Daley Plaza, which sees thousands of bicyclists clogging the streets for the biggest group ride in the Midwest.
