Beaumont is located in southeast Texas, about 30 miles from the Louisiana border and roughly 80 miles east of Houston via Interstate 10. Beaumont is the home of Lamar University and the South Texas State Fair. Travelers to Beaumont can enjoy the option of visiting six RV campgrounds located within the city limits. Some the campgrounds' amenities are equipped with a lake and playgrounds. Others offer close locations to popular local destinations like Parkdale Mall and downtown Beaumont.
Locations
Three of the six RV campgrounds are located in the western portion of the city, including Hidden Lake RV Park, at 6860 S. Major Drive; Mobile Manor RV Park and Parts, at 5345 Fannett Road; and Gulf Coast RV Resort at the end of town at 5175 Brooks Road. East Lucas RV Park is located in north Beaumont at 2590 E. Lucas Drive. Two campgrounds can be found in south Beaumont near Lamar University; they are Spindletop RV Park at 4950 W. Cardinal Drive and Lucas Gusher RV Park at 407 Hillebrandt Road.
Amenities
Each campground offers various amenities. For example, Hidden Lake visitors can enjoy an eight-acre lake along with wildlife in its wooded area. Gulf Coast RV guests can visit a convenience store on site, a pool with a sundeck, a meeting room and exercise room. Mobile Manor sells RV parts on site and can order parts for an RV in need. East Lucas RV offers tent space at its site. Travelers at Spindletop can accept gatherings at its picnic pavilion. Guests at the Lucas Gusher RV can get a workout with pet along the park's walking trail.
Rates
Rates for these campgrounds range greatly, starting at $35 to $40 for daily stays, as of 2010. Weekly rates can run travelers from $175 to $195, while monthly rates can range from $400 to $575. These rates are for camp travelers with one or two people. Many camps charge a small fee per person, per night if they have more than two people. East Lucas RV Park charges $20 for tents on its grounds for one or two people.
Weather
Weather in Beaumont, ranging in highs from the lows 60s in the winter to the low 90s in summer, allows camping virtually year-round. Most of the campgrounds in Beaumont are open throughout the year. One of the main weather concerns for Beaumont is hurricane season. Hurricane Rita hit the city in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008. Despite that, hurricanes are not an annual occurrence and campers would do well to check weather forecast at least two weeks in advance during the summer and early fall, the height of hurricane season.
