The tropical vibe of a luau party captures the essence of summer or warms up cold winter days, making it a versatile party theme for kids. Snacks work well at a party because they allow kids to nibble between rounds of limbo and hula dancing. Infusing the tropical theme into the luau snacks incorporates food into the overall party decor.

Tropical Fruit

Tropical fruit works well as a child-friendly snack at a luau. A simple fruit salad incorporating pineapple, mango, bananas and other tropical fruits appeals to both adults and children at the party. For older kids, tropical fruit kabobs offer a different approach. Slide chunks of tropical fruit onto short bamboo skewers. Arrange the skewers on a plate or poke one end into a whole pineapple for a creative presentation.

Tropical Trail Mix

Dried tropical foods and snacks work well to create a trail mix with a luau theme. Macadamia nuts, cashews and pieces of coconut fit the tropical theme and go well in a trail mix. Dried bananas, mangoes and pineapples also add to the trail mix flavor. Serve the mix in luau-themed paper cups so the kids can move around the party area while munching on the snack.

Smoothies

A smoothie offers an alternative way to incorporate tropical fruit into the luau menu. Kaboose.com suggests a mixture of bananas, strawberries, milk and frozen yogurt to create a tropical smoothie. Coconut milk, mangoes and pineapple juice or chunks increase the tropical taste. Mix up several batches to experiment with different tropical additions. Paper umbrellas in the smoothie cups top off this luau snack with flair.

Shaped Sandwiches

Sandwiches appeal to most kids, whether you fill them with peanut butter and jelly or turkey and cheese. A sandwich itself doesn't have a tropical feeling, but a shaped cookie cutter can make snacks conform to the party theme. Choose a cookie cutter shaped like a tropical flower, pineapple or other appropriate shape. Cut the bread using the cookie cutter and arrange the shaped sandwiches on a tray.
