Stressful noises can impact your life. Sometimes a stressful noise serves a purpose. You may be driving along peacefully listening to your favorite music, but the blaring siren of an ambulance shocks you and forces you to move over to the side of the road. Other times the stressful noise can be enough to ruin a night's sleep, such as a baby's wail that startles you awake, after a long day of caring for the fussy infant.
Thunder
Thunderstorms can be predictable, but they can also come up in a matter of moments. In those cases, the crack of thunder can cause incredible stress. Even in the comfort of your home, thunder can be distressing. Or you could be enjoying a day at the park with your family. Maybe you walked a half-mile before arriving at a spot where you are having your picnic. The skies suddenly darken, and there is a huge crack of thunder. You have to regather your family and your possessions and head for dry land.
Late-Night Telephone
Stress can be the overriding feeling when you hear the phone ring late at night. Too often, a late-night call will bring bad news, such as illness, trouble, or even death. Sometimes the call is simply a wrong number, but from the instant you heard the phone ring until you learned the reason for the call, there is a feeling of stress.
Chalk on a Blackboard
The cliche is "like nails on a blackboard." But it was more likely a piece of chalk that was making the noise, when the teacher tried to get her lesson across. The chalk's squeal can make the hair on your neck and arms stand up and your eyes open wide.
