Organic red cider vinegar has been used as a digestive aid for centuries. According to Dr. Edward Group at the Global Healing Center, organic cider vinegar contains acetic acid, ash, calcium, malic acid, pectin and potassium. Acetic acid slows starch digestion, which helps prevent insulin spikes after meals and ash helps keep the pH---the ratio of acid to alkaline---of your body in balance.

The calcium and potassium in apple cider vinegar promote strong bones and teeth and healthy hair, while pectin reduces bad cholesterol and helps your body regulate your blood pressure. The malic acid found in organic red vinegar has known antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.

Internal Uses

Add 1 tbsp. organic red cider vinegar to an 8-oz. glass of water and sip it slowly to ease heartburn, soothe asthma and aid digestion. Stir 2 tsp. of red cider vinegar and 1 tsp. of honey into an 8-oz. glass of water and sip it to soothe arthritis. This is also said to ease leg cramps and menstrual cramps.

External Uses

Add 2 to 4 cups of organic red cider vinegar to a hot bath to relieve itchy rashes, sunburn and poison ivy. Soak a cotton ball in red cider vinegar and hold it to infected toenails to help clear up nail fungus. Organic red cider vinegar applied with a cotton ball is also believed to help clear up acne and eczema.

Other Uses

Rinse your dog or cat with organic red cider vinegar after their normal shampoo. Dilute it or pour it on at full strength, and then rinse it out with clear water to help repel fleas and give your pet's coat a healthy shine. Condition as usual. Any sharp scent from the red cider vinegar should fade once your pet's coat is completely dry.
