San Francisco, California is one of the most populous cities in the United States and a popular destination spot for tourists from all over the world. While you may be visiting to catch a glimpse of some historical sites and experience fine dining at world-class eateries, you might also be surprised to find an abundance of outdoor activities suitable for maintaining a fit and active lifestyle while on vacation.

Biking

From Golden Gate to Fisherman's Wharf, numerous bike paths are available for visitors who wish to venture through the city of San Francisco while taking in the fresh air the Bay Area has to offer. Bike rentals are available at several shops throughout the city, with children's bikes and tandem bikes available for your convenience. Many of these shops also provide maps of possible bike routes along with daily guided tours, so skip using the metro or spending money on a taxi and enjoy a day of biking through San Francisco.

Golfing

The city of San Francisco is home to six municipal golf courses that are available all year long. Harding, Lincoln and Sharp Golf Park offer 18 hole courses while Fleming, Golden Gate and Gleneagles Golf Course offer nine-hole courses. Reservations must be made at least seven days in advance, with the exception of Golden Gate Park Golf Course which is first come, first serve. You can make your golfing reservations online at SF Tee Times or by phoning the automated tee time reservation service at 415-750-4653.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park is one of San Francisco's most historical destination spots, encompassing more than 1,000 acres of land, larger than New York's Central Park. The park includes numerous activities for the outdoor enthusiast like open tennis courts, horse stables, baseball diamonds, and even a fly-fishing pool. You can also enjoy a stroll through the park while visiting some of its featured sites, such as the Japanese Tea Garden or the Stybing Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

Hiking

San Francisco features several hiking trails suitable for all types of hikers. Hiking trails like Twin Peaks, Mount Davidson, Mclaren Park and Lobos Creek are relatively easy, ranging from half a mile to two miles in length, with a hiking time of less than one hour to complete. The hiking trail at Crissy Field is roughly three miles in length, and offers you views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay.

After spending so much time outdoors running, hiking or biking, all over San Francisco, it's nice to treat yourself to a day of relaxation to help rejuvenate your body.
