Low back pain can be caused by injuries to the lumbar area, disc problems or arthritis. One of the best ways to treat low back pain is through physical therapy and exercises. When low back pain is the issue, some of best therapy and exercise takes place in the water.
Leg circles
Step into the pool and stand in water that is waist deep. To strengthen the lower back, stand on the left leg and lift the right one up. Take the right leg and make three circles in a clockwise manner and then three more in a counterclockwise fashion. Do the same exercises while standing on the right leg and circling with the left leg. Do 10 sets with each leg.
Imaginary chair
Stand in waist deep water and place your back against the wall. Get your body into a sitting position as if there was a chair underneath your buttocks. Your thighs should be parallel to the floor of the pool. Pump your arms as if you were marching. Count up to 50 as you do this, take a 30-second break and then repeat the exercise.
Lunge
Stand in waist-deep water. Place your right foot about 18 inches in front of your left. Lunge forward until your back is at a 45-degree angle to the floor of the pool. Hold this position for 3 seconds. Do this 10 times and then switch legs. Do a set of 10 with your left foot in front of your right. Take a 30-second break and repeat the set.
