Atlantic City, New Jersey, is known as the premier gambling establishment on the East Coast but also offers many sports-themed recreational activities for the fitness-conscious day tripper. Explore Atlantic City's boardwalk which includes numerous amusement park piers and museums, including Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum. Fishing, surf lessons, sailing and golf are some of the other ways to fill a day-trip itinerary.

Golf

Enjoy a day of golf in Atlantic City; choose from multiple golf courses. The Marriott's Seaview Resort includes Pines Courses, an 18-hole, 6,731-yard course while their Bay Course offers an 18-hole, 6,247-yard course. The Great Bay Resort and Country Club includes an 18-hole course that hosts the annual LGPA tour event.

Boardwalk

Get your daily exercise exploring the Atlantic City boardwalk. The north end of the boardwalk features the Garden Pier Art Center & Historical Museum. Take some time to enjoy one of the center's live performances or walk around their museum which is famous for the "world's largest typewriter." Should you head south on the boardwalk, stop at the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum or the Amusement Park at Steel Pier.

Sailing

Summer Breeze Sailing Charters offers full- and half-day private trips aboard a 34-foot Catalina sailboat. Dinner and evening trips are also available as well as picnic cruises and theme cruises. The sailboat can hold up to six people and times are flexible to meet customer needs. A half-day trip is three hours and costs $250, full-day is five hours and costs $350, as of 2010. Sunset and evening cruises are $250. Sightseeing opportunities include wildlife like dolphins, pelicans, ospreys, turtles, other waterfowl as well as views of wetlands, beaches, lighthouse, boardwalk and casinos.

Surf Lessons

Sign up for Atlantic Surf Sessions at the Boardwalk Hall Information Center; lessons are offered from June through October. Stacey's Surf Camp in the Atlantic City area offers private lessons, group lessons, kids' camps and adult camps in a safe, enthusiastic, non-competitive environment. All lessons and camps include use of soft top surfboards, surfing pop-up demonstration on the beach, surf instruction in the water and discussion of ocean awareness, surf etiquette, wave selection and safety.

Fishing
