The exact cause of acne is unknown, but many factors do contribute to it including clogged pores, inflammation, excess oil and bacteria properties, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Every year, 85 percent of American teenagers suffer from acne, although it can occur at any age. There are several vitamins you can take that are believed to reduce the appearance and severity of acne marks.
B Vitamins
The B complex group of vitamins consists of vitamins that can help to reduce acne. Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, helps vitamin A to maintain and improve mucus membranes. A deficiency in vitamin B2 can cause acne. Niacinamide, or vitamin B3, is important for your skin, keeping it healthy by improving circulation; a low amount of vitamin B3 can lead to acne. Also, pantothenic acid, or vitamin B5, helps the body deal with stress, which can cause acne.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin and works with carotenoids to keep the protective tissue of your skin strong and prevent acne by reducing the production of sebum, a natural oil that is found on your skin and scalp. Vitamin A also helps to repair tissues on the skin and mucous membranes. It is also relieves your body of stress, which can cause acne. A low amount of vitamin A in the body can result in acne.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C works with bioflavonoids, which are antioxidants, to help repair and growth tissues in your body. Vitamin C protects against bacteria that can cause acne to form and enhances your immune system so your body can protect itself and destroy bacteria, according to Dr. George Obikoya.
