Home Remedy for Spider Veins

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, spider veins are superficial blood vessels that appear blue or red on the skin. They tend to occur on the legs but can be found on other parts of the body. There are a number of home remedies available for spider veins.

Ginkgo biloba

Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest tree spices used in traditional medicine today and is the most studied. In the United States, it is the best-selling herb. Gingko has been used to treat circulatory disorders and also assists in enhancing the memory. According to Mother Nature, taking this herb can help to strengthen the tissues that make vein walls in the body. It is also high in bioflavnoids. It is recommended to taking at least 40 milligrams of this herb three times a day to treat spider veins. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, it is best to speak with a health care professional, as reactions to other medications can occur with this herb.

Witch Hazel

In the book, "The Green Pharmacy", James A. Duke says that using witch hazel on spider veins can help to reduce extreme pain if it is occurring. He says that anyone suffering from spider veins should soak a cotton ball with witch hazel and apply it to the spider veins. Results will vary by individual.

Vitamins, Minerals & Supplements

Putting blueberries into cereal can help to treat spider veins. Blueberries and raspberries provide bioflavonoids to the body, which are natural compounds that assist in making blood vessels strong and work with supplements such as vitamin C and other nutrients to help make capillaries less fragile. Also, consuming grapefruit can also help treat spider veins, as the white membranes of citrus fruits are a high source of bioflavonoids.
