Natural sea salt can be used to cleanse and exfoliate your skin, either daily or occasionally. While you can purchase expensive salt scrubs, you can make your own inexpensively and easily to keep the skin on your legs, arms and body looking and feeling its best. Customize your sea salt scrub to your skin type and needs, whether your skin is naturally oily, dry or normal for skin that is soft and silky smooth year round.

Step 1

Measure out 1 cup of coarse sea salt. Coarse sea salt is available in your grocery store, health food store or from specialty retailers.

Step 2

Stir 1/2 cup olive or almond oil into the salt. The salt will not dissolve, leaving you with a coarse, moisturizing scrub.

Step 3

Add a few drops of essential or fragrance oils if desired. Use less than 1/4 tsp. of oils for 1 cup of sea salt. BeautifulWithBrains.com suggests adding ground ginger and cinnamon to your scrub instead of essential oils.

Step 4

Transfer the mixture into a clean, wide-mouth jar. Reuse a jar you already own, or purchase an attractive one if you plan to give this sea salt scrub as a gift.

Step 5

Scoop out a generous handful in the shower and rub over your skin. Rinse away with warm water.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you cannot find sea salt, experiment with brown sugar or epsom salt to make your natural homemade bath scrubs.
  • Avoid using a salt scrub after shaving or on broken skin to prevent the risk of discomfort and pain.
