While playing miniature golf will not deliver a serious calorie burn, it can be a great way to share time with friends and family outside or an opportunity to learn and practice some of the putting fundamentals of "real golf." Maryland has 24 mini golf courses, according to Golf Link.
Ocean City
For many, playing mini golf at the beach is as much of a summer ritual as building sand castles. Ocean City, Md., offers several places to play within a few miles of the beach. Visitors to the Jolly Roger Amusement Park can choose from its Treasure Hunt or Jungle Golf mini golf courses. Jungle Golf features waterfalls, a tropical rain forest and a lagoon.

Berlin
Berlin, Md., close to both the beach areas of Ocean City and Assateague Island National Seashore, also has several mini golf spots. The water park at the Frontier Town Campground offers a western-themed mini golf course that is open to the public but free for campers in spring and fall.

Laurel
Laurel, Md., between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., is another destination for mini golfers. The Rocky Gorge Mini Golf and Batting Cage features a hole shaped like a pitching mound, a lighthouse hole and a Washington Monument hole. In addition to golf, visitors can also visit the arcade and batting cages.

McHenry (Deep Creek)
Visitors to Deep Creek Lake near McHenry, Md., can hike, swim or play mini golf at the Funland Family Fun Center. The 18-hole course features waterfalls and boulders. Visitors can also ride go-karts and bumper cars or play water games.

Bel Air
The Bel Air Golf Center offers Gunpowder Falls Adventure Mini Golf that features several holes designed to remind visitors of nearby historical attractions such as Fort McHenry. The course also has a waterfall and sound system which pumps continuous music. According to the its website, this golf course is designed to challenge the more advanced golfer without overly frustrating the novice.
