Dieting can be a bit of a challenge, especially if the foods on your diet plan have no flavor. Not all diet foods are tasteless, and unappetizing, and the ones that are can be combined with other foods to make them taste better. You can mix-and-match low calorie foods that need flavor help and enjoy their great taste when you are done with them. Eat the ones that need no help just the way they are.

Fruit and Yogurt

Watermelon needs no help when it comes to flavor, as long as the watermelon you eat is a good pick. Pineapple, grapes, cantaloupe, honeydew, peaches and plums are also delicious alone, mixed together as a fruit salad or mixed into a cup of vanilla yogurt to compliment its flavor. Fat-free fruit yogurt is also a diet food that tastes great in the flavor of your choice.

Vegetables

Broccoli and cauliflower taste great when they are steamed and drizzled with fat-free Italian salad dressing. Red kidney beans taste great with chopped red onion and fat-free Italian dressing. Chopped tomatoes in a salad made with chopped red onion and fat-free Italian dressing has great flavor as well. Carrots taste good steamed with a little fat-free margarine and fresh dill. Celery stalks are tasty dipped in fat-free blue cheese dressing. Lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers are diet vegetables that can be made into a tasty salad with the fat-free salad dressing of your choice.

Whole Grains

Eat a bowl of cereal flakes made of whole wheat with skim milk and strawberries or the fruit of your choice for a great tasting diet food. Cornbread with a tablespoon of fat-free margarine spread also tastes good. Toast the cornbread if you like it toasted. Make a bowl of air-popped popcorn and season the popcorn with powdered salad dressing. Choose ranch or Italian for great flavor.

Meat and Fish

Broil a chicken cutlet and baste it with a tablespoon of apricot preserves when it is almost done to create a great flavor. You could also season a chicken cutlet with lemon pepper and grill it. Marinade fresh tuna steak or salmon with teriyaki and soy sauce and broil it. To give the sauce a spicy kick, mix in some wasabi powder. Top the tuna or salmon with a tablespoon or two of chopped scallions.

Soup

Diet soups like chicken bouillon taste great with a little rice and vegetables added to them. Good vegetable choices are chopped tomatoes, zucchini and carrots. A tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese in your soup will make it taste better yet. You can also add a little oregano to your soup for more flavor. Tomato soup is also very tasty. If you like your tomato soup spicy, you may want to add a few drops of hot sauce to it.
