Mount Charleston, located approximately 35 miles from the city of Las Vegas, is a peak higher than 11,000 feet and home to a number of hiking trails and ski resorts. It is also within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the largest national forest in the contiguous United States. As the surrounding area is home to such a large number of outdoor activities and beautiful vistas, there are a number of lodging choices for RV enthusiasts in the area. If you're looking to enjoy the mountain or forest from your recreational vehicle, there is a park or resort in the region that can accommodate you.

Campgrounds in the State Park

Because Mount Charleston is located within the boundaries of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, there are several opportunities for camping. The national forest does, however, provide more opportunities for dispersed tent camping than for recreational vehicle camping.

There are a number of campgrounds within the park that have sites available for RVs up to 35 feet, though most of these are without electrical or other hookup options, as well running water. The closest campground with electrical hookup is at the Mount Charleston Trailhead, Fletcher View. If you're looking to rough it, camping in the national forest might be a great option for you.

Eastern RV Parks

The closest town to Mount Charleston is Las Vegas, located 25 miles east of the national forest. If you're looking for RV parks and resorts with more amenities than those offered by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, there are many full-service RV parks located in the western portion of the city of Las Vegas--just a brief drive to Mount Charleston.

In Las Vegas, you can enjoy the luxury of RV parks with a number of full--hookup and pull-through sites, in addition to bathroom and shower facilities. Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, for instance, also has a swimming pool and general store for guests.

Western RV Parks

Pahrump is a small desert town located on the California border, west of Mount Charleston and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Pahrump's proximity to Mount Charleston means that there are plenty of full-service RV parks and resorts in the town.

If you're looking to avoid the big city of Las Vegas, Pahrump is an option for you. Nevada Treasure RV Resort and Spa, located in Pahrump, has full-hookup amenities, and pull-through sites available. Similarly, West Gate RV Park offers full-service rental sites within the gated senior living community.

Amenities

If you're staying outside of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, you can be guaranteed that regional RV parks and resorts will offer you full-hookup and partial-hookup options for your campsite. If you find yourself staying in a Las Vegas RV resort, you will find that the amenities offered generally include wireless internet, phone, cable TV, swimming pools and fitness centers. Pahrump's smaller RV parks generally have less amenities, but they make up for it in the quiet of the small town.

Rates

The most affordable option for camping in the Mount Charleston region is at the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, which, as of August 2010, charges $7 to $10 per night for its rustic camping sites. RV parks and resorts in the Pahrump and Las Vegas area are more expensive as they provide more amenities to the camper. Generally the price for these sites can range from between $30 and $64 per night, depending on the type of site and amenities that you require. There is occasionally an additional fee for parties larger than two people.
