The dishes are piling up and the layer of dust on the furniture is making you sneeze. Cleaning often falls to the bottom of the list when given a choice. Efficient cleaning gets you back to more entertaining activities without sacrificing a clean house. Each person's cleaning style is slightly different, so play around with your method until you find something that works for you.

Clean as You Go

Many everyday tasks, such as cooking or getting ready in the morning, leave behind a mess. Cleaning up the items you use as soon as you are finished with them keeps the mess to a minimum and doesn't add much time to your routine. If you're making dinner, place dirty dishes into the dishwasher as soon as you're finished using them. Place ingredients back into the pantry or refrigerator as soon as you get done adding them to the bowl. Clean up the rest of the kitchen right after you finish eating. This leaves you with a clean kitchen and the rest of the evening to enjoy. Cleaning up any task as you are doing it simplifies your cleaning routine.

Set a Timer

A regular kitchen timer helps you focus your cleaning efforts and keeps it to a minimum. Set your timer for 10 minutes and start cleaning on a room. When the timer goes off, move on to the next room and set the timer again for 10 minutes. Adjust the length of time to fit your schedule or cleaning needs. You give each room some attention without spending all day cleaning. The timer also helps you streamline your cleaning processes and prioritize the cleaning tasks.

Simplify Cleaning Products

A different cleaning product for each task complicates your cleaning routine. Switching bottles and cleaning tools slows you down as you make your way through your cleaning list. Choose a multipurpose cleaner that works on a variety of surfaces, from glass to your kitchen countertops. Test the cleaner on a hidden area of each different surface to make sure it doesn't damage it. The cleaner allows you to move from one cleaning task to the next without stopping to switch cleaners.

Clean Every Day

A daily cleaning of your home, even if it just means picking up stray items and putting them in the correct spot, prevents the mess from overwhelming you. Set aside 15 to 30 minutes each evening to clean up your home. Waking up to a clean house the next morning may make you feel more productive and help you get your day started.
