Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness characterized by a temporary suspension of disbelief. While in hypnosis, ideas bypass critical reason and go straight into the subconscious. For this reason, hypnotherapy is often sought to relieve attachment to unwanted compulsions. Hypnosis can be a useful complement to any successful weight loss plan.
Pre-Trance
Begin with an attitude of positive expectation. Before starting, get a clear picture of who it is you would like to become. Picture a future where you have come to be this new person. Notice what you see, hear, think and feel. Imagine that all these feelings have a color. See that color becoming brighter, sharper and more vibrant. Notice how the feelings change accordingly. Burn these sensations into your mind. Remember exactly how you are feeling right now. Whenever you have any discouraging thought regarding the possibility of achieving your goal, pull this feeling from the depths of your mind and hold onto it for at least 10 seconds.
Reaching the Subconscious Mind
Find a position to lie or sit down comfortably. Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing on a balcony several stories in the air. In front of you is a long staircase. Instinctively, you proceed to tread each stair with wide, deliberate steps. As you move down, your path becomes surrounded by darkness on all sides. However, you continue to see the steps clearly because they are well lit. With each step, you find yourself becoming more relaxed. Ten steps remain before you reach the ground. As you continue to walk the stairs, a voice in your head begins to count backward from 10. With each number, you relax twice as deeply as the moment before. At the number one, you step off the stairs. You realize you are standing in a familiar place.
Installing Change
Ask the part of you responsible for maintaining your current weight to come forward. It might be an image, a taste, a smell, a sound or feeling. Allow that part of you to manifest itself in whatever way your unconscious mind deems necessary for you at the moment. Thank that part for attempting to look after you in some way. Realize that behind every thought is a positive intention for the individual. Perhaps, at one time, this part of your mind sought food for comfort or security. Maybe eating had become a substitute for some emotion that you needed, but didn't know how to find. Inform this part of yourself that you no longer desire to satisfy your needs in this way. Ask the creative part of your mind to come forward. Request that this portion of your being develop healthier alternatives to achieving the same ends. Call forth the part of your mind responsible for implementing patterns, the part that allows you to tie your shoes and write your name. Ask this part of yourself to enforce this desired pattern at an unconscious level so that thoughts and actions conform automatically.
Emerging
Make sure all parts have agreed to work in harmony, toward achieving a higher level of being. Allow each portion to return from whence it came. Turn around and head back up the staircase, each step moving you closer toward your normal state of awareness. Upon reaching the balcony, you will find that your eyes open automatically. You should feel restored and revitalized. Simply acclimate yourself to the room and your surroundings, trusting that your unconscious mind will make the adjustments necessary to manifest your desire.
