Paintball is a game of strategy and marksmanship. The object of the game is to move through a course without getting hit with a paint-filled ball that is shot out of a specially-designed gun. There are several places in Portland, Oregon where paintball enthusiasts can exercise their skill of the game. Outdoor parks add an extra element as the course is affected by the weather and can change the terrain of the course.

Robin Hood

The Robin Hood Sherwood Wars experience at Action Acres offers paintball enthusiasts the opportunity to join with other paintball players in an organized game. The theme of the game is set in the time of Robin Hood and different players are set to be characters from the stories of Robin Hood. The game starts when the time warp ball is activated and will last for two hours. Not only do the players need to stay "alive" but items must be located and collected throughout the game.

Wooded Paintball Courses

Splat Action provides players with a variety of wooded paintball courses. Players can choose from a variety of playing fields and set up their own rules as they want. Or individual players can join in on one of the planned paintball events at the park. Objects are placed throughout each of the parks for players to hide behind and use as tactical defense during play. The parks are placed on 47 wooded acres with safe areas located throughout for players to catch their breath.

Tower Paintball

Storming the tower can add a bit of rush to the thrill of paintball. As one team defends the tower, the other tries to capture it and remove the invaded forces. Most think that the high ground always holds the advantage, however, with strategically placed bunkers this may not be the case in the paintball tower at Action Acres. Storming the tower requires players to create partnerships and to always watch their backs whether they are in the tower or on the ground.

Timed Courses

Timed courses at the Cloud 9 Paintball facility will challenge even the most avid paintball enthusiast. The timed course will challenge an individual's marksmanship as well as his strategy. The player moves his way through the course while avoiding the fire of hidden marksmen. The player must also manage to hit specified marks as he moves through the course.

Reservations

Depending on the course, reservations may need to be made prior to a paintball game. Cloud 9 requires reservations be made but will allow cancellations without penalty if the cancellation is made at least 14 days prior to the reserved date. Action Acres has some walk-on options available depending on the number of people currently on the courses. However, if a large group is going, it is advisable to call ahead and reserve the time to ensure availability.
