When it comes to finding great anti-aging skin care products for dry or oily skin, the ones you may want to use can vary greatly, depending upon what your skin type is, and how your skin may react to certain skin care products. However, there are some rather easy rules of thumb that you can follow when you are seeking out anti-aging skin care products that can get you the results that you desire. A great way to get started is by re-evaluating your skin care regimen and making adjustments by what ingredients and product types affect you.

Harsh Chemicals and Fragrance-Free

Many over-the-counter anti-aging skin care products can contain foaming agents that are found in soaps and cleansers, such as sodium laurel sulfate. This chemical can actually dry out your skin more if you have dry skin. At the same time, there are many skin care products that also may contain scents or fragrances that can easily work wonders for one person's skin, but that could cause irritation, an excessive excretion of oils like sebum, or the drying out of skin in others.

Gentle Cleansers

It all starts with how you cleanse your face. If you have dry skin, look for soaps and mild facial cleansers that contain active ingredients called emollients, such as lanolin and olive oil. If you have oily skin, you should seek out cleansers that are pH-balanced and rich with antioxidants, which combat free radicals, or the oxygenated cells that greatly contribute to the signs of aging, and that are rich with nutrients and vitamins.

Cosmetics

Cosmetics are often a contributing factor, as well. For oily skin, you don't want to ever add more oils to your skin, so look for oil-free and or water-based foundations and cosmetics, such as mineral makeup. With overly dried out skin, it is better to seek cosmetics that contain moisturizers to nourish dry skin.

UV Protection

The sun and the weather contribute to the problems of those who suffer from dry or oily skin. The sun's harmful UV rays can wreak havoc on skin and greatly contribute to the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, crow's feet, raccoon eyes and so forth. Look for chemical-free and unscented UV creams that offer a high SPF rating, at least 30 SPF or higher, in order to properly protect your skin from the sun.
