Fibroid cysts in the breast, called fibrocystic breast disease, are small, non-cancerous growths located in the breast tissue. The cysts are filled with fluid and may be caused by normal hormonal fluctuations, according to Women's Health, a UK-based information service for women's health issues. Fibroid cysts may be painful and cause overall breast tenderness, especially during the week before a woman's period. Ways in which to relieve the breast tenderness caused by the fibrous cysts may include medications and lifestyle adjustments.

Medications

Women who suffer from discomfort relating to breast cysts may be prescribed medications to help control the pain. Over-the-counter analgesics such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium may be appropriate to use and may be recommended by the doctor on an individual basis. Birth control pills may also be a solution for women who are not actively trying to start a family. The dose of hormones contained in oral contraceptives may help women find relief from the tenderness and other painful symptoms of fibroid cysts.

Strong Support

A more natural approach to relieving the uncomfortable symptoms of fibroid cysts is to buy a support bra. One of the symptoms of fibroid cysts can be sensitivity to touch; a support bra keeps the breast tissue from moving around too much during a woman's normal everyday routine. Higher-end department stores may provide services that fit women with bras to be sure they have chosen the right size. Women who have breast cysts may want to take advantage of such a service to help relieve discomfort.

Dietary Changes

Making dietary changes may help relieve breast pain that accompanies fibrocystic breast disease. The Mayo Clinic states that eliminating caffeine from the diet may lessen the symptoms of breast cysts. Reducing the amount of sodium that is ingested may also be a dietary remedy to try. Women's Health suggests increasing the amount of cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli in the diet. According to the information service, these vegetables may help a women produce more estrogen, which, in turn, decreases the symptoms of breast cysts.
