If you suffer from dark, puffy circles under the eyes, forget the idea of plastic surgery. Grab some tea bags instead. Two compounds in tea bags help with the baggy puffiness and dark circles under the eyes, and they are caffeine and tannins. According to a leading beauty magazine, Cosmopolitan, the caffeine helps tighten the skin, and a report from the Ohio Library and Information Network states that tannins reduce inflammation.
Step 1
Heat water on the stove until it just begins to boil. Turn the water off and place tea bags in the water. Allow them to steep for 5 minutes.
Step 2
Remove tea bags from the water using tongs, but do not wring them out. Instead, place them, still wet, in a bowl, and put them in the refrigerator to cool, which can take 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 3
Remove tea bags from the refrigerator when they are cold to the touch. Wring the excess water and tea from them, but leave them slightly moist.
Step 4
Find a relaxing spot, and lean back. Place the tea bags over your eyes, making sure the entire under-eye area is covered. Use light pressure to secure the tea bags in place.
Step 5
Leave the tea bags on the eye area for 30 minutes, then rinse the area with cool water. There will be visible reduction in under-eye puffiness and dark circles. Repeat this treatment daily, if desired.
Tips and Warnings
- Cool tea bags are also a remedy for sunburned areas of the skin.
- If you experience itching or burning when using tea bags under your eyes, discontinue use. If redness remains after 24 hours, consult your physician.
