With four national parks and several historical and natural resources within its borders, Colorado is a haven if you're looking to get away from daily life, whether for a few hours or a few days. If you want to experience what Colorado has to offer and have a night to spare, there is no shortage of options.

Fishing

Fishing in Colorado waters is a favorite pastime for both amateur and sport anglers alike. Rainbow and brown trout are plentiful, and the part of the Arkansas River that runs through it hosts a trout fishery open to the public. Charter boats and fishing guides are often available for either full or half days to fit your schedule. Roaring Fork Anglers offers full-, 3/4-, and half-day trips, in addition to fly fishing classes. Some guided trips require you to bring your own equipment.

Some fishing packages can be combined with either rafting or hiking, depending on your chosen fishing location and preferences. For fishing trips, even for one day, a non-resident Colorado fishing license may be required; research in advance to see if you'll need one.

Golfing

In the warmer months, golf is often the sport of choice for people looking to relax and enjoy a quiet afternoon or early evening out on the course. Most golf clubs in the area offer the ability to reserve your tee time up to one month in advance, while some allow a greater degree of freedom if you don't want to commit to a certain time.

If you prefer to save time, some places such as the Pole Creek Golf Course in Tabemash, offer lodging on or near the premises, so you won't have far to travel when your game is finished. If you want to play golf during your stay in Colorado, plan to visit between May and October when most of the courses are open.

Skiing

On the other side of the calendar, the mountainous ranges and high altitudes of certain areas in Colorado allow many golf resorts located near such areas as Telluride Ski & Summer Resort to transform into ski resorts for the colder months.

Even if you only plan to visit Colorado for a night, you can easily rent ski equipment either in town or at the ski resort itself, and take in a lesson for couple of hours or go exploring on your own.

Hot Springs

For a glimpse of naturally created beauty, Colorado offers several hot springs well known for their therapeutic properties and natural healing minerals. The world's largest (found in Glenwood Springs) and deepest (at Pagosa Springs) hot springs both call Colorado their home and play host to thousands of travelers every year. Each provides lodging and a relaxing one-night getaway.

Hiking

Colorado's mountainous regions offer dozens of trails with varying difficulty levels from easy walks to steep terrain, many of them found within protected nature parks. If you prefer a guide to help locate the best area for your interest and skill level, or to point out the sights and historical facts as you walk, places like Colorado Wildnerness Rides and Guides will help you choose the right trail for you and assist with choosing appropriate equipment if needed. While multi-day trips are available, many hiking trails can be completed within a few hours. Some trips offer a hotel night stay as part of a package.
