According to the city's Parks and Recreation website, Eden Prairie, Minnesota, is described as a place "preserved in natural beauty within the metro area." Eden Prairie prides itself of parklands; the community is composed of more than 4,500 acres of wetlands, making it one of the few communities in its metro to offer diverse facilities to residents. Since parks are conveniently situated on or nearby local beaches, fishing piers and botanical gardens, Eden Prairie's parks makes for an ideal spot for active dwellers.

Flying Fields Park

The Flying Fields Park, owned by Metropolitan Airports Commission, is an ideal spot for parkgoers who like to fly kites or hobby airplanes, You also can use its fenced-in and baseball and batting field. Storage units are available for rental.

Beach Park

The Riley Lake Park is located on the community's Planet Beach, where fishing piers and boating ramps are made accessible to the public free of charge. Other recreational facilities include two ballfields--one for softball and the other for baseball--two tennis courts, a basketball court and sand-based volleyball courts. You can also stop by the town's historic Riley-Jacques Farm, located right on park grounds.

Skating Parks

For older kids, The Crestwood Park has added an outdoor ice-skating and outdoor hockey rink to their reportor of outdoor recreation. In addition, The Nesbitt Preserve Park not only houses two youth baseball fields and a sand volleyball court, but also a lighted hockey rink and an indoor skating rink with warming house.

Playground Parks

Carmel, Edenville and Crestwood Park are nestled within the residential area of Eden Prairie. All have sturdy playground structures equipped with slides and swing sets suited for children 12 and under. The parks also has medium-size basketball and tennis courts for older kids, teens and adults.

Shelter Parks

The Bryant Lake Regional Park is one of the largest parks in Eden Prairie. Located right off Highway 62 and west of Shady Oak Road, the park is owned and operated by Hennepin Parks. Bryant Lake makes it easy to host larger family events as its facility include a three-season concession plaza, picnic and pavilion area, paved boat launch, fishing pier, access to local beach swimming and on-site boat rentals. The park is also ideal for joggers as it provides a 2.2-mile turf hiking trail, 1-mile paved bike trail. Dogs are permitted to run around in their own designated play area.
