A hair bun is a classic "up do" for many women. A bun allows the neck and jaw line to be seen, adding definition to a person's silhouette. The style also allows hair to be kept off the face and shoulders. Medium-length hair or longer is best when making a bun. The style only takes a few minutes to create.
Step 1
Slightly dampen your hair. Working with hair that is slightly oily holds the bun in place firmly; clean hair is not required. Lightly spritz the hair with water to add moisture to your locks. Smooth your hair by combing with a brush or comb.
Step 2
Comb your hair up into a pony tail and hold the hair in place with a rubber band. The ponytail should be about two inches from the bottom of the hairline. The rubber band will be hidden, so the color of the rubber band doesn't matter. Comb the ponytail to smooth and detangle the hair.
Step 3
Grasp the ponytail and begin to twist the hair. Once the hair is twisted to the ends, begin to wrap the twist around the base of the ponytail in a clockwise motion. Insert bobby pins into the center of the bun as the hair is wrapped into the coil, or bun shape.
Step 4
Camouflage the end of the ponytail by placing the ends underneath the bun. Secure this with a bobby pin. Spray the hair lightly with hairspray. Another option is to lightly smooth the hair by using hair gel.
