Roller brushes are made to style and curl hair while using a blow dryer. The brushes commonly have nylon bristles and are made with a round metal plate. The plate heats up when the blow dryer is directed at the brush, curling and shaping hair. Air is circulated through the brush with ventilation holes placed in the metal backing. A roller brush produces loose, natural waves and adds movement and lift the overall hairdo.
Step 1
Shampoo and condition hair. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle and smooth hair. Blow dry hair by hanging head upside-down for maximum body.
Step 2
Secure hair on top of head with a clip to focus on the underneath layers. Using the brush, comb hair downward, gently rolling sections of hair while adding heat with the blow dryer. Roll brush throughout the style process. Apply direct heat only for a few seconds, as hair can be damaged and burned.
Step 3
Release hair and begin combing the next section. Blow dry hair and continue to brush hair while parting on different parts of the head---alternate parting on the left, middle and right side of the head.
Tips and Warnings
- Use a small diameter brush for tight curls or short hair; large-diameter brushes are recommended for long hair or looser waves.
