Phoenix, Arizona is a goldmine for senior activities, as it is a favorite retirement spot in the country. From community centers to continuing education, and even the Senior Olympics, there are plenty of opportunities to stay active in your golden years.

Senior Centers

The City of Phoenix has established several senior centers. No matter what neighborhood you're in, you're sure to find a center nearby. At these centers for ages 60 and up, enjoy group meals, educational opportunities, socialization, activities and guidance on health issues and advocacy. For those struggling with their fixed income, there are nutritional programs and the meals are reasonably priced.

Ballroom Dancing

If you're into dancing, the United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association (USA Dance) has a Phoenix chapter. Their mission is to promote ballroom dancing as a community-oriented healthy activity. From learning to competing, there's a place for you at USA Dance. Brush up your moves and give the "Dancing With the Stars" crew a run for its money.

Community Center

In addition to senior centers, Phoenix offers the Washington Activity Center for the general community; for seniors, it offers continuing education, games and activities. Activities include music hour sing-a-longs, canasta, bingo, bridge and more ballroom dancing, if you haven't had your fill with USA Dance.

If you miss your sporting years, the Arizona Senior Olympics has a place just for you. Promoting health and fitness, the event will help you get in shape and stay active. Advice, workshops, clinics and competitions are but a few of the resources the Olympics offers. Awards and encouragement serve as motivation to help you reach your fitness goals.

Travel Club

Expand your horizons with travel. The Travel Club for Senior Citizens aims to promote friendship and memories via hundreds of two- and three-day excursions in the Southwest . Extended trips are available as well. The East Valley and Sun City are a few of the popular stops.
