Camping in Ohio is a way to get out and explore the Buckeye State. Many campgrounds offer activities for your enjoyment. Whether you enjoy camping by the river, by the beach, in a state park or by a winery, Ohio has a flourishing landscape for you to experience. If you have some time, then try camping in Ohio.

Geography

Ohio shares state borders with five states and has over 312 miles of Lake Erie shoreline. The state has five major rivers and two major lakes. The Appalachian Plateau is located on the eastern half of Ohio. Camping in Ohio is a chance to experience the great outdoors of the Midwest. It is a good idea to check the weather before heading outdoors. Depending on the season, the weather may rain, shine, snow or blow bitter wind.

Wine Tasting

Moderately drinking wine is good for your heart. Put-In-Bay, Ohio, is home to several wineries on Lake Erie. Vacationers can actively enjoy the outdoors at area campgrounds as well as visit the local wineries. The campgrounds offer electric and non-electric campsites. Cabin rentals are also available on Lake Erie. If you stay on South Bass Island, check for vehicle restrictions. Bikes, island taxis and golf carts are the only forms of transportation permitted. Boat shuttles will take you to the island.

The River Experience

If you want to camp close to a river, check into the campsites next to the Little Miami River. The river is located in southern Ohio and flows over 105 miles. Cottages and campgrounds are available, and most campsites provide a parking space, a tent space and a fire ring. Restroom facilities are typically available. If you are interested in a day of exercise, consider a canoe ride down the river. There are companies that offer raft, kayak and canoe trips for your enjoyment.

State Parks

Ohio State Parks offer group camping, family camping and equestrian camping. Reservations are recommended during the busier seasons, and you can make reservations up to six months in advance. Hunting, swimming, fishing, equestrian activities and boating are some of the activities you can experience at the parks. You can stay at a campsite up to 14 days during a 30-day period. Most campgrounds are open all year, but some parks may offer limited activities during the winter months.

Enjoy breathing the fall air as you experience the forest. The foliage in Ohio put on an artistic display during the fall season. If you get a chance to camp during fall, Ohio will present a vibrant landscape of brilliant color for your viewing pleasure. The Wayne National Forest is considered a national hot spot for fall color. The forest is located in the hills of southeastern Ohio and covers over a million acres of Appalachian foothills.
