Riding an exercise bike is an effective way to get a quality leg and cardio workout at home, free from distraction and immune to any inclement weather. Many exercise bikes have electronics on board. Some are more elaborate and sophisticated than others, but all can malfunction from time to time. Following certain troubleshooting tips will help keep all elements of your exercise bike running smoothly.
Step 1
Follow the power cord from the bike to ensure it is plugged in if nothing is showing on your display or it won't turn on. Also check to see that the cord is connected properly to the bike itself, no frays or breaks are evident in the cord, and the console doesn't appear damaged in any way.
Step 2
Pull on the sensor grips and handle bars that control the heart rate feature if your bike has one and it won't display properly. Ensure the grips are on securely. Also check the cable for the heart rate feature to ensure it is plugged in properly and not damaged.
Step 3
Inspect the data cable to ensure it isn't frayed or damaged, and that it is connected securely, if your fan won't turn on or the console shuts off as you are pedaling.
Step 4
Find the locking pin and adjustment knob for the seat post if it moves. Tighten and adjust these parts until the seat is stable.
Step 5
Bend down to check if the pedal-to-crank connection is tight, if the pedals are loose. Tighten any screws or bolts to help secure the pedals.
Step 6
Turn the level adjustment knob if your exercise bike has one and it rocks when you use it. Try moving it each way until the bike is level, or move the entire bike to a more level area if it doesn't work.
